Uhr_VerkaufRarity:
You are bidding on this rare Swiss Vintage Wristwatch TAVANNES, presumably after 1940, manual wind, 18K red gold, diameter 31mm, engraving inside the case: "401828".
The term "rarity" is widely used with Ebay sales, but I think the watch offered deserves this designation, not only as a representative of a time-honored Swiss watch company, but also because of its original owner, Georg-Hermann Greiner, my father. He wore this watch during the second world war as one of the most successful pilots of the Night Fighter Wing 1, to which also belonged Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, both Knight‘s Cross-bearers.  If you are interested, use the following links to read the vita of my father (in German): ,

This is a short article in English: TAVANNES:
The watch company Tavannes was founded in 1891 and according to their own data  claimed the fourth place under the world clock manufacturers in 1938.
Starting from about 1940 Tavannes made precision watches for pilots. But I did not find any evidence that the Luftwaffe had bought these watches for their pilots. I once researched with Konrad Knirim, apparently one of the military gurus, which watches were used by the German Luftwaffe WKII, but I did not find it there. So it seems to me as if my father had bought this watch on his own, which - according to other information, which I have read - was not unusual at this time.
Under the URL: . you will find some information on the history of the watch factory Tavannes. Unfortunately I can not specify the correct type description of the clock either. Although there are a number of images that can be found in the Internet of early Tavannes chronometers, if the watch was similar to the one offered here, the second and minute displays ?? were arranged side by side rather than one above each other like it is on my father's watch. If you look at the current website of Tavannes (http://www.tavanneswatches.com), you can find a film about the company history (http://www.tavanneswatches.com/index.php/tavannes-history-flash/) , of which I have taken the following picture:
© Tavannes Watch Co SA You see, that a similarity with the watch offered certainly cannot be denied. Some additional information: Over the years the watch glass and the crown have been replaced. About 25 years ago (yes, it has been so long!) I had the watch being checked by a watchmaker. After this maintenance, I did not operate the watch any more, except last week, only to check, if it’s still working. I did not run a real accuracy test, because this did not seem to me appropriate for a watch of this age. The time measurement could be started, but stopped several times on its first run after 25 years and had to be started again by slight pressure on the start button. After that, it ran five minutes without problems before I finished this function test.
May be this can be fixed by another maintenance.
Pressing the start / stop button stopped the time measurement, and pressing the reset button returned the hands to the starting point. Due to the soft gold material, the watch shows scratches and abrasive traces, which, however, are exaggerated and thus unfavorable if pictured with macro setting.
This impression is considerably reduced when viewed normally.
The watch strap is, of course, not the original one and is not part of this auction, but it will of course be delivered with the watch. The watch offered for sale is in working order as described above under points 1 to 4. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Since I am often on the road, an answer may take longer than a day.
As an extra bonus and only if you are interested in this, I will send you some photographs of my father (as a pilot of WWII and some private pictures). I would like to wish all interested parties a happy course of their auction.
