Among Wittnauer success are supplying the US armed forces during both World Wars, the world’s first waterproof, shock-proof, anti-magnetic watch (1918), Amelia Earhart’s solo Atlantic crossing plane was fitted with Wittnauer timepieces – as was Howard Hughes’ ‘Winged Bullet’ plane that set a US coast-to-coast record. Wittnauers history is scattered with tough environment achievements, earning a well earned reputation of producing reliable, tough, yet fine timepieces. The Wittnauer 7004 was first fitted with a Landeron 248 until the late 1960's, after which the Valjoux 7733 was used. The later models are commonly seen with the arrow head divers style minute hand and a metal triangle with small lume pip on the bezel.  Thanks to the resurgence of vintage (Tag) Heuer Autavias, classic chronographs prices like Universal Geneve, Gallet, Enicar, and Fortis have been climbing steadily and Wittnauers are one of the few vintage chronographs that you can still find under $3k.
