18K SOLID GOLD ENGLISH DETENT REVERSE FUSEE HELICAL HAIRSPRING CHRONOMETER
Please note I am not a professional watch collector. I'm merely liquidating a first rate (my opinion) collection and therefore do not accept returns. The pictures are the best description so please look carefully. Buyer receives watch pictured. Easy enough to see why the English ruled quality watch making before the Swiss took over in the later 19th century. This is a beautiful signed McFerran 18K solid gold detent pocket chronometer, circa 1856. It is a guilt reverse Fusee, 14 jewel, freesprung movement, helical hairspring and lovely diamond cap. Fine mint enamel dial with lovely gold/guilt hands. Watch is 51mm wide (east to west) (no crown or bow) on our digital calipers. Watch weighs 114.7 grams on our digital scales. Watch is key wind and key set. Watch comes with what may be the original winding key (not pictured). Gave watch a full wind and stopped watching it run after 24 hours and it ran to the minute by a quartz clock (Amazing)! As anyone selling a 160 year old watch, we can't guaranty timing, etc... Always a professional cleaning is recommended by a highly qualified watch person. Watch has the most lovely clock like sound when running.
