American Watch Co - Appleton Tracy & Co size 18 solid 18k gold (hallmarked) Circa 1874. 14k chain, FOB and knife included.Case:18k gold with eagle hallmark denoting karat (pictured). Very minimal wear on very crisp case. Case has not been engraved and has no dings. Both hinges for the back of the case are good and tight. Spring for the front is strong and works as new. Catch that holds the Hunter case closed works as new also. Crown is crisp with minimal wear. Bow is tight with very light wear at the top. Very clean unmolested case. I have not removed the movement from the case to weigh it since I want to leave it as unmolested as I found it, however by subtracting the weight of a similar movement I come up with an approximate weight of 75g of 18k gold.Movement is a very limited production Appleton Tracy & Co movement model# 1857 produced between June 1874 and December 1, 1874. Run quantity was only 200 pieces. It is a size 18, 15 jewel lever set. Clean movement with no scratches, gouged screws or wear evident. It runs like a champ. Lever set works well as it should. See pictures for more information on movement.Dial is in pristine condition as are the hands. There are ZERO blemishes or hairline cracks in the enamel and the dial has not been refinished. Dial is 100% original and is like brand new.Chain has been tested as 14k gold and weighs approximately 10gKnife FOB has the former Owner's initials hand engraved on it and is rolled gold plated. Knife is marked S&S Empire.Eagle with swords FOB appears to be 10k. I did not test it because there is not a good place to test without damage. It only weighs 2.7g anyway. Engraving is as follows: Edward R. Feicht Jr Col 3rd Reg 1941. The obituary for Col Feicht is in the pictures. He retired in 1970 as Vice Commander of the Arnold Engineering & Development Center where the Saturn Rockets for the Apollo program were tested. This is by far the most pristine pocket watch I have ever had the privilege of collecting. It is a practically flawless 143 year old watch.
