Again I have the pleasure of offering another superb military wristwatch for sale on ebay, it is a collectable WW2 (1942) Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilot's watch by Cyma complete with the famous British military markings on the case back. Cyma are amongst the most rare of all the HS8 watches, far less common that the likes of Omega. Cyma have been making impressive timepieces since 1862 in the watch-making centre of LeLocle, Switzerland. Cyma, along with the likes of Omega, Jaeger Le Coultre, IWC and others, were deemed to be worthy of producing watches specifically for use by British Royal Air Force and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilots in World War II. To pass the exacting government standards of the time was quite an achievement and this reflects Cyma’s quality and attention to detail. The case measures some 31 mm excluding the winding crown and lugs and is in average condition for its age. The case back is marked 'H.S.8.’ with the famous military broad arrow, a further reference of ‘1577’ and a personal post-war engraving. The inner of the stainless steel case back is marked 'M' and carries references of 18002, 9166 and 364.The patented, 15 jewel movement is signed 'Cyma', it runs well and keeps good time. The original, silvered dial shows some patination as the photography shows. It is entirely original and thus infinitely preferable to the refinished dials that are too common here on ebay. The hours are printed in black and in Arabic form to compliment the original hands with a contrasting gold sweep centre seconds. 'Cyma' reads clearly in black print, but please note a tiny crack in the lens. The watch comes on black and red NATO style strap with considerable age. Please do not miss my array of other vintage watches now for offer here on ebay and thanks for looking.
