As an importer and manufacturer of high quality timepieces, Wakmann Watch Company was founded in New York in 1946, and became known as experts in the world of chronographs and multipurpose timekeeping. At the time, the US had increased duties on imported Swiss watches, which opened the door for Wakmann to partner up with Breitling. Wakmann would receive a batch of nearly complete watches from Switzerland, which would then undergo final assembly before being sold under the Wakmann name. Beyond “re-branded” watches, Wakmann also supplied timekeeping devices for the Armed Forces, U.S. Government, commercial airlines, and radio/television studios as part of their Breitling relationship. Later the company would be purchased by Breitling and absorbed into the larger and more successful umbrella. This Wakmann two register chronograph with a black dial is an absolute beauty. The black dials are much rarer to find, especially in original condition without any refinishing. The inner red-tachymeter scale adds a very nice accent to the dial. The chronograph is running strong and resets perfectly to 12. The watch is keeping time as well. The movement is clean, and the case is in good condition for a 50 year old watch, with just the usual scratches you'd expect. Hands and dial are original and untouched as stated before, and look absolutely fantastic. The watch is 37mm, and feels like a 38 on my wrist. Feel free to message me with questions or offers for a F2F deal in NYC.
