Ollech and Wajs produced two versions of the Early Bird.  The earlier version has a Glycine style bezel with the following bezel characteristics: sharp notches, colors split evenly between the 18 and 6, narrowing hash marks and fat font numbers.  The later version has a bezel with the following characteristics: rounded notches, colors split evenly between the 12 and 24, straight hash marks and thin font numbers.  There are some other defining characteristics for the earlier versions as well, such as movements stamped Ollech+Ways (not Wajs) and lower recorded serial numbers.  I've only collected the earliest versions of the Early Bird and I currently have 2 others with the exact same bezel and serial numbers in the 333xxx and 336xxx range.  This particular O&W has a serial number of 337062. The glossy black "Swiss" signed dial is beautiful and the tritium on the dial and hands, which emits a faint, short lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has developed a golden butterscotch patina.  In my humble opinion this dial has not been relumed as the tritium on every Early Bird I've ever seen has been applied somewhat sloppily.  Furthermore you can see the porousness of the material, which lends support to the tritium being original.  The bezel, which has faded gracefully to a distressed blue and light pink hue, rotates bi-directionally, albeit a bit stiffly.  The all stainless steel, antimagnetic case is in wonderful condition with no significant dents or dings and only light scratching.  The writing on the case back, which has dulled over the years, reads "Stainless Steel Swiss Made Waterproof Antimagnetic Incabloc" around the edge and "2834" followed by "337062" in the center beneath the engraved diver.  The superdome crystal shows light scuffing and scratching that can likely be polished out. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs.  Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm.  Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm.  No band is included. The Ollech+Ways 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss-signed movement is in beautiful condition and keeps accurate time.  After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-dented crown 21 full revolutions the power reserve was still running strong after 33 hours.  While the inside of the case back shows no visible signs that this watch has ever been serviced, there appears to be some initials on the movement.  Although this watch is running strong and currently keeps near perfect time, considering that it is over 45 years old and with an unknown service history, a complete overhaul is suggested. As mentioned above, this is a vintage watch with an unknown service history.  As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.  Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.  A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watching running strong.  Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. This sale is final and there will be no refunds given of any kind, so please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying.  And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided.  Thanks for looking!
