De Bethune started to its watches in an atelier style, almost 'tailor made' watches of highest elegance and refinement, and with a focus on the best possible finish. Without doubt, they make some of the finest watches in the world today. Right now they are making roughly 200 watches per year and have plans to ultimately finish 1200 watches per year in the future. For this relatively low number, they make quite an effort. Almost all of the movements they use are manufactured in-house. For so few watches, they already have an extremely impressive collection to offer. All of the DeBethune wrist watches in this style are made in precious metal cases made of gold or platinum and have the characteristic ogival lugs. The dials are guilloched by hand. The movements are also entirely hand assembled. To me, as a collector, I find it particularly exciting when a brand can be identified by multiple elements. The case is very unusual, but the dial too is unmistakably De Bethune. This version, the DB27 Zr Titan Hawk All Black is no exception. "The dial made of black microlight has several levels. The high, domed time ring placed outside of this watch, minute display with line markings and Arabic numerals, inside the wide hour ring with Arabic numerals, inside is another slim, slightly deeper ring which is flat and acts as a central calendar display. The center deeper area, places the three skeletonised steel hands. The third, large triangular hand displays the calendar day and along with the hour and minute hands, it creates the hawk in the name of the watch. The skeletonised moving brackets on the lugs are attached at 3 and 9 o’clock, so the crown has been fitted at 12 o’clock. The matte solid caseback has a viewing window at 6 o’clock closed which allows you to see the balance".
