I'll start by saying that I love this vintage 1960's Packard Nautoscaph. It's an amazing watch that is built like a tank and lived a life full of adventure. The "Swiss Made" signed dial has oodles of character, having aged naturally and uniquely to an accented champagne hue. I believe the dial has aged the way it has due to a combination of a paint defect in the specific batch of paint used combined with environmental and storage conditions over the past several decades. I've had several Tudor 7017's and 7020's in which the dials have aged similarly. I think this dial looks awesome and so much better in person. The tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, emits a faint glow before quickly dissipating after being exposed to bright light. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally, looks great. The heavy duty, all stainless steel case is in wonderful shape and free of any visibly significant dents or dings. There is a "B" stamping on the top of the left lug at 12 o'clock. It is my understanding that this stands for either Biel/Bienne or Bern and signifies the Swiss assay office where the item was tested and marked. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SWISS MADE WATERRESISTANT 100% TESTED ANTIMAGNETIC AUTOMATIC STAINLESS STEEL" with "999 FT,""PACKARD,""NAUTOSCAPH" and "30 ATM" stamped in the center. While the integrity of the crystal appears intact it does have scratching and a decent gouge/indentation near the 1 and 2 o'clock markers. The 17 jewels Swiss "PACKARD" signed ETA 2472 automatic movement with quickset date function is in beautiful condition, keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over as it should at approximately 12 am. The quickset date works flawlessly by moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour markers. After recently winding the sharply threaded screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the watch had a solid power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds buttery smooth. Please note the small ding on the face of the crown. Considering that this watch is over 45 years old with an unknown service history (there are two watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 42 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 13.5 mm. The genuine 19 mm straight end Tropic strap is fully pliable and in mint condition with the exception of some oxidation on the "ACIER" buckle. Although the movement keeps near perfect time and works as it should, given the vintage nature of this watch and its unknown service history, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided. Thanks for looking!
