This timepiece comes from my personal collection and is a premier piece in overall outstanding condition! It starts with a beautiful and heavy 14K solid gold hunter case. Swirling leaf, vine and flower designs highlight the edge of each cover and are set upon a deep engine turned background. A smooth outer edge ring encircles the covers. A fancy, uninitialed shield centers the front cover. The center ring of the case is reeded. The case is signed "Roy - U.S. Assay - 14K - 365362". The inner dust cover is also stamped "14K" with the same matching serial number. The case is in superb condition showing only the faintest signs of wear from carry. All of the engraving, including the engine turning has remained sharp. There is one small depression on the edge of the case that is noticeable. I tried to capture it in the 4th image shown above but it is small enough that it doesn't show up readily. The front cover springs open sharply when released and stops abruptly at 90 degrees as it should. The back cover stops just shy of 90 degrees when opened which is also correct. All of the hinges are firm and tight with no play or slack at all and the covers snap shut very tight when closed leaving no gaps. The crown has remained sharp and the bow is also tight. Overall dimensions of the watch are 55mm (2 1/8") wide x 75mm (2 15/16") from the top of the bow to the base of the case x 19mm (3/4") wide. Overall, the piece is a heavy 129.8 grams in weight (4.58oz). The front cover opens to reveal a double sunk, white porcelain dial marked with bold, black, Arabic hour chapters and red five minute numbers. It is signed "Waltham". There is one very faint hairline present in the outer dial ring between the 11 & 12 numbers. It is only visible using magnification. The rest of the dial is very clean and crisp. Deep blue spade pointers center the dial are also clean and the glass crystal is scratch free. The 18 size, 21 jewel, model 1892, stem wind and lever set, full plate, nickel movement is as clean and crisp as the rest of the watch. Beautiful swirling line and checkerboard damaskeening along with raised gold screw down jewel settings and a diamond end stone give this piece an amazing aesthetic eye appeal. It is very bright and flashy when viewed in hand. The gold lettering reads "Vanguard - Waltham, Mass. - 21 Jewels - Adjusted". The serial number 11044438 dates this piece back to around 1902. The movement is extremely well preserved showing only minor service marks. It has been cleaned and serviced within the past year. It winds and sets smoothly and is running strong while keeping decent time.Overall, this is a watch that you rarely find today in this condition. I'm never fond of parting ways with watches from my own collection but sometimes I find myself with the need to make room for new acquisitions. I am starting this auction at a reasonable buy it now price but I will be glad to consider any offers you may wish to make. If it doesn't sell, I will probably just continue to hold onto it. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and thanks for looking!
