I have here a watch found at the estate auction of a TWA pilot that had some of the most incredible and hard to find items I had never seen. This watch is one of them and could be super rare. I will list what I have researched and what I see. First the watch is stem wound and lever set with the Montgomery double recessed dial which is marked, J. R. Mercer. The movement is clean and the watch is running and keeping very good time. The movement is marked, D. Gruen & Sons. It also has Adjusted Heat Cold Isochromcm. The letter 3 letters may be different as they are partially covered. Down inside I can make out Dresden. I see not number for jewels but the watch is definitely jeweled and is probably a high jewel movement. It has the movement number 66681 and from doing a little research this watch is from around the early 1900s. Here is what could make this super rare. It has an incredible raised relief circular designed case with dots at the end of the circles. There is a shield shape on the front. All this is over a fabulous textured circular finish. The watch has a hunter case and is marked under the top 4606737. The outer case of the back has Keystone 14K 4606737. The inner case cover has Warranted 14K U.S. Assay with the matching case number. I could not find another example of a case like this one and I wonder could it be a one of a kind case. The watch weighs 109 grams. I did find one of these that sold for 3000.00 and it did not weigh near as much and it had an open face case. This watch will grace any collection. If more info is needed please email me and I will answer as best as I can. Buyer to pay 7.00 US priority mail shipping. Payment expected within 5 days of end of sale. Thanks!! Just a note. There are hanlding scratches and scratches where the case has been opened but the overall condition is very good with no damage to the porcelain crystal which has gold painted numbers.
