An Elgin National Watch Co teak cased brass deck watch, the enamelled Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and state of wind indicator.A seldom seen piece, as most of the American-made ship's Chronometers were made much later for use in WWII by Hamilton. It’s powered by an 18-Size 21-Jewel, Father Time grade movement with Up/Down winding indicator. The most unusual thing about the movement is it has a free sprung balance. This clock had the feature almost a century ago. The movement is also beautifully organized throughout and features a diamond end stone balance cap jewel. The gimbaled tubbed brass case set in an Elgin signed, wood box that measures 5 1/4”T x 5 1/8"W x 5 1/8”D. The original thick, beveled glass crystal is clean and clear and looks absolutely pristine. The "Elgin National Watch Co" signed porcelain dial looks great with original steel hands in excellent condition. The clock's brass housing shows little wear. The brass looks like it hasn't been touched in generations and has a wonderful patina.PLEASE STUDY ALL PICTURES AS THEY ARE PART OF DESCRIPTION
