This is a truly astonishing piece to me. Unfortunately, the provenance of the watch has been lost. I'm sure it is very interesting. It is in a display case that would typically be in a major private collection or a museum. The dial is marked Charles Bertrand and was made by Jacques Anspach with date mark 01-80. The movement is marked Ant Guiot A Paris N 617. Both Bertrand and Guiot were master horologers in the late 18th century. This watch is approximately 5.8mm thick including dial and 27.5mm in diameter. This is small enough to be a wristwatch a century before wristwatches were conceived. It is running although I haven't tried to see how accurate it is. It has an uncommon single virgule escapement. No other escapements at the time would have allowed such a small movement. The movement appears to be a Lepine Transitional style which in and of itself would make this important and unusual.
