Solid 18K Gold Pocket Watch by GRUEN c1916 High Grade 21 Jewel PRECISION Movement This is a Swiss pocket watch made by the GRUEN Watch Co. in Cincinnati and has clear assay marks for 18K Gold as well as the componentry and where it was assembled. Total weight of the watch is 65.4 grams The watch does work and seems to keep time. The movement appears to be in fairly good condition. The watch has been tucked away in a safe for a while, so a servicing is likely in order. Conversations I have had with a jeweler and two scrap metal dealers have directed me to this point. The two scrap dealers offered $850.00 and $800.00, respectively - both have said that since the watch works, it is likely to be of significantly greater value as a watch. Although the jeweler did not make an offer (his wife cut off his buying for his collection until his store is closer to a thriving status), he agreed with the scrap buyers. He gave me a site to look up and helped me interpret some of the main points about the piece. The movement is jeweled to the center. The movement is signed “Gruen Watch Co, Precision" ; SUISSE, 21 Jewels, Chronometer; Temperatures”
SN#143889. Case – a solid 18K Gold open face case, which has a hinged inner, back and hinged snap bezel. The case is marked 18K with Gruen Watch Co stamped over an initials signature of NAT’L W. C. CO. Historical note RE: Engraving: The inner back cover is engraved “Aug 1, 1916 and is from my Great-grandparents to my Grandfather on his 21st Birthday. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in good condition. My mother always said her dad took great care of this piece as it had great sentimental value to him. Dial – the dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is not signed. The dial is in fair condition and has a mineral glass The watch measures 44mm wide x about 9mm deep and the stem wind/ stem Set is about 14mm. I DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS based on claims of measurement error as I always accurately described item dimensions of diameter and thickness. SOLD AS IS PayPal accepted.
