See photos for condition. This has been worn just a handful of times, looks in excellent condition. Limited edition!A short review of the Alexander Shorokhoff Vintage N2. First let's get the basics out of the way...Limited to 99 each in emerald green and dark blue.Poljot chronograph movement from the 3133 family, with 24-hours-display at 6 o'clock, calibre 31681
(based on Valjoux 7734). The balance and the chronograph bridges are hand engraved. Other
movement plates are decorated with perlage. These bridges and plates are then rose gold plated.
The wheels are polished and rhodium plated and the screws are blued.Case dimensions - 43.5 x 13.65Now my thoughts...Last year our local dealer (Right Time here in Denver) hosted Mr Shorokhoff for a "Russian Night" at the store.
With food and drinks promised I was able to drag my better half along. We weren't intending to buy anything - just
wanted to go, have some fun, meet Mr Shorokhoff, check out the watches and then head back home. Well, we did all
that but we also ended up buying 2 of Shorokhoff's watches. I blame my wife! You see, she fell for his Winter model. Admittedly, one of the prettiest ladies watches I've ever seen. Well, the
watch of this review had also caught my eye. So, seizing the opportunity I said we could get them for each other
as Christmas presents. Put them on layaway and not have to stress about Christmas. My darling wife agreed. Needless
to say, it was REALLY hard waiting unti Christmas for these watches.Anyway, before all this I'd noticed and even handled the various Alexander Shorokhoff watches at the store in the past.
And while I found them interesting and appealing just never pulled the trigger. I am glad I did this time though. This watch has quickly become one of my favorites. For the money (well under $2000 with discount), you get a lot of watch.
The dial has a beautiful radient sapphire blue finish - it'll cast aqua blue, royal blue, and deep navy blue at the same time as the light hits it. The white poire style hands (a typical design feature of AS watches) provide a high contrast to the dial and make reading the time VERY easy. And I do like their curvy shapes. And while you don't get the typical oversized 20 and 40 on the dial that you see on other AS watches, you do get the oversized 60. Finally, there's a little pop of yellow with the 24 hr hand and "Uhrenmanufature" printing on the dial. All this gives you a dial that can only be an Alexander Shorokhoff dial. The case is quite a bit more restrained - if not in size, in design. The tops of the lugs are polished and the sides are brushed.
Subtly engraved on the 9 o'clock side of the case is the edition number (12/99 for mine). The bezel is polished. Due to being thin and stepped in design it doesn't pick up scratches very easily though. The crown is over sized which is quite nice since this is a manual wind watch. The winding and setting feel is satisfying. The chrono pushers are polished and have a nice feel to them. They don't take a lot of effort like some chronos but still
click quite nicely. Starting, stopping, and resetting all take about the same effort. The caseback has a sapphire window that provides a great view of the movement. While not high horology, it still an impressive movement to look at. The hand engraving and perlage are well done. And the rose gold plating give it a nice warmth.
Being a horizontally coupled chronograph you get to see the levers move and the wheels engage/disengage when you operate the chronograph - fun! The watch, at 43x13mm in diameter is not small. And with the thin bezel it does look bigger on the wrist than that 43mm might suggest (rather like an IWC Portuguese). However, I find it a comfortable watch, the lugs are short and curve downward quite a bit. And the strap is VERY comfortable (I've read somewhere -but can't confirm- that there's a tie in to Hermes here somehow). I am very impressed with this watch and very happy I decided (or rather my wife decided!) to buy it. In fact, I
can see adding another to my collection in the future (perhaps Right Time will host Mr Shorokhoff again this year).
Oh, speaking of which, meeting Alexander Shorokhoff was a pleasure. He's a quiet, unassuming man, but when you
get him talking about his watches his passion really shows. We even got to see some sketches (hand drawn by him)
for possible future models.
