On the Wrist Watch Collect-ability Scale, Illinois Watch's are HIGHLY COLLECTABLE and there is no more of a fanatical collector than the “Illinois Wrist Watch Collector”. The Illinois Watch Company Produced Many Art Deco or “Moderne Style” Watches During the 1920’s and 1930’s, they have always held an honored place in the annals of watchmaking     On January 1, 1928 the Local Newspaper Brought about a deep shock to the local residents of Springfield by announcing that the “Illinois Watch Company is Sold to the Hamilton Company for Over 5 Million”. The Hamilton Watch Co. was the Illinois Watch Companies Fiercest Competitor and you can only imagine the feelings of the employees at the news. The sad news is that by 1932 Hamilton realized that it didn’t make good business sense to operate two factories, they closed the Springfield Factory and moved production to Lancaster, PA. Hamilton continued to manufacture and sell Illinois Branded Watches until 1948, this is why you will see many references to “Illinois / Hamilton”    Here we have the 1930 Illinois Manhattan, Illinois marketing material describes their watches as “A Reliable Companion to the man in Business who thoroughly Realizes the Value of His Time”. An Awesome Art Deco Beauty with Engraving all Along the Bezel and Case Sides. An Awesome Refinished Dial that is in GREAT condition.   The Gently Domed Glass Crystal is New Old Stock and in Perfect Condition. There were only a handful of Wrist Watches Models that were actually made and cased at the Illinois Factory, most movements were sold to jobbers that cased them or jewelry store owners that re-cased and sold them as their brand, this is why you will see many Illinois Watches re-branded and in a huge variety of cases.   This Beauty is one of the Few that was actually “Illinois Factory Made”, the proof is on the inside of the case back, it reads “ILLINOIS WATCH SPRINGFIELD – The Number 162 represents the Manhattan Case Number    and the last 4 digits of the Case Serial Number Stamped into the Case Center Piece and scribed on the Inside of the Case Bezel.   The 14K White Gold Filled  “Three Piece Case” is in EXCELLENT CONDITION and Houses a 17 Jewel, 6/0, Grade 607 Movement that is s/n’d 5387440, dating it
