WE THANK YOU FOR VIEWING THIS STUNNING NEAR MINT WRIST WATCH, THIS ONE IS A:

LEMANIA HS9 FLEET AIR ARM SINGLE PUSHER PILOTS CHRONOGRAPH c1940s.   CASE & STRAP:   This watch has a stainless steel case which measures 38mm wide x 45mm long x 14mm thick. It has a oversized winding crown (for winding with gloves), single chronograph pusher, fixed strap bars & threaded case back. The case back is absent of any MOD markings & we are unsure as to why this is, this is how we received this watch. This watch comes on a brown leather NATO style strap, with stainless steel keepers & pin buckle. The case has been fully stripped, cleaned & contrast polished, in keeping with the original case finish. It has also been fitted with a brand new crystal, we have even managed to find & fit a new old stock lead case back seal.   DIAL & HANDS:   Stunning silver metal dial with black Arabic numeral hour markers, black chapter ring & two subsidiary dials. The dial is clearly signed Lemania Swiss Made & it has the MOD broad arrow. The dial has had the Radium removed from the hour markers & it also has the addition of the Incabloc dial markings, indicating that this model has been back to the MOD for a service at some point. This watch retains its original blued steel hands. The hour & minute hands have been Tritium coated, which remains in excellent order.   MOVEMENT:   This watch has a pristine Lemania calibre 2220 column wheel chronograph movement, it has nickel plates with polished steel screws, steel chronograph work, 17 jewels, solid 2 arm balance, blued steel hairspring with Breguet overcoil, it runs at 18'000 VPH & it has a power reserve of 42 hours. This movement has a Lemania model reference number 2220 stamped beside the balance, & it has the serial number 962002 on the escape wheel cock. The movement has been fully inspected by one of our technicians, it has also been electronically timed & regulated, subsequently it now keeps chronometer time to within a +5 to -5 seconds per day, with the chronograph functioning correctly.   SUMMARY:   This is a superb & quite rare timepiece, these military campaign watches hark back to a bygone era, when men were men & they did what they had to do for their country. Thoses times are now gone & all we have left are the remnants of there deeds, this is one of those artifacts that get the mind & the heart racing.
Being a bonifide WWII campaign watch, it will always remain high demand & this is a extremely nice, clean example of its type, so do not miss out on your chance to own one of these fantastic British military issue watches!!!

LEMANIA WATCH COMPANY HISTORY:
Lemania, Lugrin S.A., was started in 1930 by Marius Meylan. Marius & his father-in-law, Alfred Lugrin, had been making watch movements for some time before this. In 1932 Lemania was purchased by the Société Suisse pour l'industrie horlogère (SSIH), who owned Omega & other famous Swiss watch brands. Under SSIH Lemania started concentrating on chronograph watches. About 1939 Lemania supplied the Czechoslovak Air Force with a model of wristwatch similar to the Longines military watches. After the start of the war, the supply of these watches were re-routed to the UK & supplied to the Czech squadrons of the RAF. Many air forces adopted the Lemania chronographs for navigators & pilots due to their reliability & accuracy.

In 1969 a Lemania chronograph was taken by Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin to the moon, the ‘Omega Speedmaster’ used by them had a Lemania movement in it.

In 1981 SSIH decided to sell Lemania, the management of the company, along with other outside investors, bought the company shares. The company then changed it’s name to Nouvelle Lamina. In 1992 the company was again sold, this time to Investcorp, Groupe Horloger Breguet. One of the possible reasons for this purchase is that Lemania were providing all the mechanical movements for Breguet watches. They also supplied high quality mechanical movements for other makers.

In 1997 Nouvelle Lemania was still introducing new calibre of mechanical chronographs. In that year the introduced the Calibre 1900. The company were looking to become self sufficient for parts at this time. In 1999 these owners were taken over by the Swatch Group who are the current owners.
