This truly is an exceptional piece. Here we have an 1888 14 kt solid gold full hunter Elgin pocket watch. Beautifully hand engraved, This is a pristine museum quality pocket watch. There isn't a scratch, scuff, dent, or imperfection that can be found on this watch. It's as if it was placed in a time capsule and forgotten for the past 128 years. This watch was serviced in November 2015 and keeps excellent time. The movement sounds super healthy and runs well. All fuctions are perfect. This 11 jewel movement is quite rare and has a gilt finish. Here are some more details: Case- 14kt solid yellow gold and hallmarked 8S case. All serial numbers match. This pristine case is in flawless condition as there isn't a scratch, scuff, or blemish whatsoever. It is nicely hand engraved with a shield cartouche (not monogrammed) on one side and a song bird on a branch on the other side. The coin edge is excellent and mint as is the entire case. In all my years as a collector and seller I have not seen a pocket watch this exquisite and probably won't again. This really is a museum quality piece and the condition reflects that. This watch is 128 years old yet it is perfect and was probably never carried. The bow is super tight like a brand new watch would have. This heavy gold case really makes this watch. If you want an absolutely MINT watch that looks and functions like it did 128 years ago than look no further. Dial- The dial is perfect no cracks, crazes, or chips. The Roman numeral markers are very nice and features the sub-seconds dial. The blued steel spade hands are beautiful and show no sign of oxidation. There is a lever between the 4 and 5 markers to set the time. You must pull it out and then use the crown to set the time. Crystal- The glass crystal is excellent and doesn't show nasty scratches or scuffs. The gold bezel is flush with the case and snaps tightly like it should. Crown is perfect as well as the stem. Movement- This rare 11 jewel lever set movement was recently serviced and keeps great time. It runs and sounds very healthy. It chimes nicely as it runs and has about a 50 hour wind down cycle. All functions of this movement are working properly and as they should. The movement is a 3/4 plate and has a gilt finish and safety pinion. Nice engraving around the regulator. Serial #3399375 Overall this watch is 10/10 for quality and condition. This watch will come with a certificate of appraisal to whomever aquires it.
