Description
This is a pocket watch from the early to mid 1800s by John Johnson of Liverpool, England. It was a treasured part of a collection of pocket watches by a member of our family who was a jeweler. It has been in storage for over 50 years. Serial number on the movement is 7313. The case has the same number as the movement. The John Johnson of this watch may be or a direct relation of Joseph Johnson, a reputable watchmaker of Church Street in Liverpool. Joseph may have had a son or nephew named John Houghton Johnson so this could be the next generation using the Johnson name after Joseph. The case may be gold throughout but has not been tested, so please use your knowledge in that regard. It is possible that the case is American made....cases were often made in America to compliment the English movement, complete with matching numbers. I understand that there is active research being conducted on the John Johnson / Joseph Johnson connection. The case is appx. 51 milliliters across from side to side. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking!
