1883 Waltham Pocket Watch 18 Size in 16K Solid Gold Eagle Case
Estimated price for orientation: 1 295 $
Category: Antique
Class:
Description Material: Solid Gold
Offered is this magnificent solid 16K gold Waltham pocket watch. There is no karat mark, but the eagle hallmark is listed in the watch guide books as being 16K solid gold. I don't know what the "18" means. The watch is an 18 size key wind, hunting, 11 jewel, model 1857 made by the Waltham National Watch Company. The dial says "A W Co., Waltham" (American Watch Company), which was the name that Waltham used between 1859 and 1885, when it became "American Waltham Watch Co." The dial is in absolute mint and original condition. The entire watch looks to be complete, original and functional. In fact, it is a strong-runner. The case is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. It could use a cleaning and a buff, but I won't be removing any gold from this beauty. The movement is marked "WM Ellery", Waltham, Mass, serial number 1,984,229. The case and movement combination are not original.
The case is triple-hinged and the complete watch and case weigh 104.3 grams. The estimated melt value (without the movement) at today's gold price ($1261/oz and climbing), is approximately $1070. Given the age of this watch, I cannot guarantee its functionality.
