What I have here to view is a Vintage Circa 1912 Sterling Silver Mappin Campaign large officers watch. This rare early timepiece has the signatures of Mappin ( Mappin & Web ) on the dial and case back with the Charles Nicolet case signature. At this time he was the director of Stauffer Son and Company, who were 19th century importers of Patek Philippe and Company and 20th century IWC movements. This movement also has the signature of Stauffer Son and Company.
The London hallmark for sterling silver with the Charles Nicolet signature and date letter place production to 1912. This is an important date for a trench watch predating WW1 by 2 years as well as an important horological date for a officers military wrist watch as they were definitely not the fashion of the day. Most wrist watches during this time period were ladies pocket watches strapped to the wrist. We searched trough military books and online and this is the earliest Campaign wrist watch we could find to surface.
