Description
Here is a beautiful 18s Columbus Watch Co "Columbus King" OF SW and lever set with 23j. It is noted with one star for rarity in the Price Guide. I serviced the watch recently and replaced the mainspring, but there is a problem in the escapement. It runs OK dial up and dial down but pendant up it will stop. I've spent a lot of time trying to trouble shoot the issues, which may or may not be: the wrong staff - too much endshake, or something going on with the pallet. Someone who owned the watch before me changed the center wheel from another Columbus watch but a different model - and filed the foot a little bit to give the gear clearance, but this is not where the timing trouble is. I don't have the Columbus parts or staffs needed to solve these issues so I am presenting this information here for the next person to try to solve.
The serial # of the watch is 503221, which puts it about 1898. I put this watch in a very cool RR case (polished) with an engraving of a Train on the back. The dial is the correct signed dial, and is almost perfect save for one very tiny hairline by the 30 minute, and another by the 23 jewels, but you need a loupe to see them. There are a few edge flakes by the 1 o'clock, but they are hidden under the bezel. The plates are in very good condition, with no issues save for a few small scratches by the casing screws. Please ask any and all questions before bidding! This watch is being sold AS IS, Where Is, As Found! Thanks for looking!
