Description
Here is a scarce Waltham 16 size Model 1860 - or 16KW - American Watch Co grade, with 19 jewels. I have counted and confirmed the jewels. This watch has been converted to stemwind with an Abbot's Patent at some point. It was also placed into a glass back case.
The serial # of 50,366 puts it about January 1864 - so yes, this is a Civil War watch. It is also from the 2nd run overall for the model, and the first run for this grade. It has the Strattons Patent Barrel and the Maltese Stopwork. You will also see one extra screw that is associated with the Abbot conversion. As part of this conversion, the mainplate was regilded and the barrel lock was removed. The dial and hands and hour wheel are all correct. There are two faint hairlines running across the dial.
The watch is running and there is good motion to the balance. The setting winds and sets, but is stiff since it really needs a service. The good news is the numbers on the balance and the cock match those of the movement. The case is a glassback, and looks to be either silver or silver plate. Because it has not been serviced, I cannot guarantee timekeeping. A great watch to own for the Waltham Specialist!!
Being sold AS IS, Where Is, As Found! Thanks for looking~
