Large 22 lignes 18k gold pocket watch with ¼ Repetition of the major watchmaker Urban Jürgensen made from around 1831 with a matching key. Urban Jürgensen (* August 5. 1776 in Copenhagen; † May 14. 1830 ) was an important Danish watch and chronometer maker and watchmaker of the king of Denmark. This watch has the number 687 , which the Year 1831 equivalent. An identical clock is displayed and described in detail in the book: John MR Knudsen "Urban Jürgensen & Sonner", Copenhagen 2003 , page 123 . The present clock with solid guilloché Münzrandgehäuse 18K Gold and appropriate Goldpunze in the lid. The housing is in very nice condition. Dust cover with engraved serial number 687 and signature "Urban Jürgensen Kiobenhavn". Dust cover gilded. The (plexi) glass is in very nice condition. Enameled Signed dial with Arabic numerals. Three blued Breguet hands. Dial with tiny scratches. The dial is in very nice condition. Exquisite and gilded work most outstanding quality. Cylinder escapement. Screwed capstone. Blued screws. Smooth brass balance with blued spring. Triggering the repetition over counterpart. Two hammers on two gongs. Blocking Repetition means slide over the 1. The very clean plant is working properly. With 20 years in Switzerland, Neuchâtel and Geneva. In 1797 Le Locle, where he worked with Jacques-Frédéric Houriet. From Le Locle, he traveled to Paris. In Paris it were due to recommendations open the houses of Abraham-Louis Breguet and Ferdinand Berthoud. Later he went to John Arnold to London to perfect his knowledge of the construction of marine chronometers. 1801 he came to Copenhagen and founded a company with Etienne Magnin for producing marine chronometers. Urban Jürgensen was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences was the first watchmaker. The Danish King Frederick VI appointed him royal watchmaker and awarded him with the title of royal Seeuhrmachers the exclusive right to supply the Admiralty with chronometers. Upon his return to Denmark, he started at the request of the Danish Government with the preparation of these for navigation so very important instruments. Urban Jürgensen led besides, numerous innovate as a special chronometer escapement with 2 locking wheels (dual wheel chronometer escapement). He was the first, the cylindrical gears of steel produced. Between 1811 and 1830 originated around 700 watches, 45 marine chronometers and 6 precision clocks in his workshops.
