SUMMARY:
A mint and substantial solid 18k gold fusee lever, centre seconds chronograph pocket watch made in Coventry in the 19th century. The watch in a very high quality fully engraved solid 18k gold case, so clearly made for someone with a deep pocket when new, 130 years ago. This is a beautifully made English key-wound man's pocket watch, dating from ca. 1872, from the Victorian period. The watch is clearly marked and in its original period case. The watch is in full working order and comes complete with a key for winding and a new presentation box. The buy it now price is a clear reflection of the incredible rarity, stunning condition and long-term investment for this watch. We are a Platinium eBay Power-Seller, so please bid with confidence, we give our email and contact telephone number below, so do feel free to contact us to discuss any watches we have available. You can also visit our shop at vintagewatchstore where there is a wide variety of fine antique & vintages watches. THE DIAL: 96% mint, the off-white colored enamel dial with black Roman numerals and in bright condition with no chips and a few small light hairlines. The dial with gold spade hands and blue centre seconds hand. Diameter is 48 mm. The crystal is also in excellent condition. THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with gilt three quarter plate and a Bosely regulator, and blue steel screws. A cut two arm bimetallic balance, with hairspring and club tooth lever escapement. The movement overall of good quality and jewelled to the balance staff and through the train with 19 jewels, so very high quality work indeed. Several jewels also set into bouchons and held in place by screws. The watch with movement number 75846. The watch comes with a period winding key for winding and hands set. The watch typically for late English work winds in an anti-clock wise direction, given it is a fusee, it shows traditionalism till the end. The watch is key-wound, comes with a watch key and set through the back for winding and via the central square for hands-set through the front. Pushing the small slide button to the side of the case at 2.00 stops and starts the centre seconds chronograph. The watch is much brighter and crisp than in these dark photos, which are limited by my camera and lighting equiment. The watch is in very good working order for its age. THE CASE: 100% mint, the solid 18k gold double skinned case measures an impressive 60 mm. The front and rear covers are excellent, both are with gold hinges and close nice and tightly. The case with Chester hall-marks and gold marks. The case sponsor mark of "J.W." and case number of 75846. The case with crisp and sharp engine turning to the case band, and with a shield and garter to centre. The case with a finely ribbed case band in very good order and a gold stop-start slide in working order. The solid gold inner dust cuvette, marked for "set hands" to hand-set arbor hole and "wind up" for winding arbor hole. This watch has clearly had a sheltered life and was most likely kept just for "Sunday Best", hence its near mint and immaculate condition. The pictures show minor reflections and various dark marks, these are an artefact from the lighting and are not present in the watch case. This is a very fine Victorian period antique in simply stunning condition, which is a very rare collectable item or a possible investment for the future or of course a fine gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding etc. TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Please note, the magnified electronic images show detail much greater than would be visible with the naked eye.
