Excellent quality watch by Charles Le Roy - watchmaker to the King Louis XV. Circa 1750s.
It's decorated by beautiful white and blue champleve enamel with allegoric symbols of Art, Science and Trade.
Very good collector condition, movement runnings well.The movement features typical attributes of quality watch of this period
- big balance bridge with ruby endstone
- stainless steel balance wheel
- lack of escapement adjustments
- barrel with wormWeight is 78 grams, diameter is 47mm, height is 53mm.Charles Le Roy founded the oldest watch manufacture in France at 1764 in Paris.
He was born in 1709 in Nanterre and became master watchmakers on 16 August 1733.
He was named to the "Horloger du Roi" Watchmaker to the King in 1737.
Charles Le Roy was very successful as watchmaker.
Greatly appreciated by the King, the Queen, and the Court, Charles Le Roy was often invited to the Louvre.
Among the clients were the largest watch lovers of this time - the courts of Sweden and Saxen, the Count de Provence, Mademoiselle de Clermont and many other aristocracy families.
Watches of Charles Le Roy are being kept in various museums, Musée du Louvre Paris, Basel Historical Museum, Basel, The J. Paul Getty Museum Los Angeles, Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Musée Cognacq-Jay, Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Mathematics and Physics Salon (Museum) in Dresden.
