Excellent lever chronometer by Lepine Paris. 1850s-1860s. wolf-tooth winding wheels On my tests the watch shown high level of accuracy - just imagine that it’s 150 years old pocket watch.
The movement seems to be based on high level Swiss ebauche - most probably LeCoultre or Audemars.According the fashion of 1850/1860 - the central axe is fixing by the small pin.
You can also notice the shape of the pendant, typical for early remontoire watches from mid-XIX.The watch is in good condition.
Solid 18k gold case is seems to be free from significant damages.
The gold parts are thick and solid.
The dust cover is also made of solid gold.Two-parts dial seems to be free from defects.
Original mineral glass and golden hands.
Movement is in good running condition.Diameter is 50mm, height without bow is 62mm.
Weight is hefty 106 grams.Jean Antoine Lépine (1720-1814) was one of the most important French watchmakers.
After his training as a watchmaker, he came to Paris in 1744.
In 1762 he completed his master examination and in 1766 (Louis XV epoch) was appointed Royal Watchmaker.
He kept this title under Louis XVI and under Napoleon.
1770 he invented so-called Lépine caliber: in XVIII the movements were so-called "full plate" with full boards, but Lépine revolutionized the pocket watch movement with its unprecedented design - the bridge construction.
In addition to his watchmaking business Lépine was involved in the founded by Voltaire watchmaking factory Ferney (today Ferney-Voltaire). He was at least 18 months in Ferney, and he also directed this "watch factory".
Besides French and European royalty, Lépine delivered the watch for George Washington (on 23 April of 1789 year the watch No. 5378).After his death in 1815 his workshop was bought by Paul Chapuy.
