1919 SAMUEL SMITH & SON, TRAFALGAR SQUARE LONDON.GENTS 18CT GOLD 21 JEWEL REVOLVING BAHNE BONNINKSEN KARRUSEL POCKET WATCH FULLY SERVICED, GUARANTEED & IN AS NEW CONDITION THE CASE A heavy and deep18K solid gold open face case, both covers hallmarked London 1919, stamped 18, serial numbered 312 to match the movement and dial and case maker stamped FT (Fred Thoms, Clerkenwell London EC)The back of the top stem is also clearly initialled FT.Both plain polished rear covers are hinged to open and close manually. The outer cover and the front bezel have a two tier/double edged rim. The case has a solid gold hinge and a solid gold bow.The sideband has a pin to set the time at position 4 mins past the hour.
Case condition: The case is in straight out the box like new condition without a single mark or scratch whatsoever.All hallmarks and ident marks are crisp sharp. Both covers open and close like brand new with taut hinges and no loose play. The 18k gold hallmarked bow is in mint condition fitting tight to the pendant. The case measures 51mm (approx 2 inches) in diameter, not including the crown or bow measurement and weighs 124 grams (approx 4.3 ozs) including movement. The case has no personalised inscriptions and is original to the movement. THE DIAL & CRYSTAL A white enamel dial signed S Smith & Son Trafalgar SQe W serial numbered 169-312 to correspond to the movement and case. With black Roman numerals and an inset subsidiary seconds dial at six.
Dial condition The dial,hands and mineral glass crystal are in mint condition without any hairlines,chips or scratches and without any loss to the wording.
THE MOVEMENT A keyless wound and pin-set three quarter plate revolving Karrusel with English lever escapement , Signed S Smith & Son Ltd, Trafalgar Square London. Makers to the Admiralty and Indian government, serial numbered 169-312 to correspond to the dial and Gold case.Concealed within the movement it also has the stamped initials B.B (Bahne Bonninksen. The maker and inventor of the Karrusel movement ) Movement Spec includes: 21 jewels with a Diamond endstone, 52½ min revolving balance/escapement. Pointed tooth scape wheel, oversprung and overcoil cut bi-metallic balance with Gold compensation screws,blued steel balance spring,polished regulator index on balance cock to engraved F-S graduations on finely engraved triangular balance cock.It is keyless wound from the crown wheel and pin-set from within the case side band.
Movement condition: The movement is in perfect mechanical working condition and without any scratch marks and keeps to accurate time, It has oiled,serviced and fully checked/set for optimal time keeping in April 2016.
